Reaping What You Didn't Sow
Net code on Street Fighter V is subpar, at best. Regardless of the current version out on the market today, it took them five years to solve a problem a fan provided in one night. To be fair, it's possible that fan had studied the net code and found inconsistencies that could be remedied, but ran through testing (probably A/B) to see if the fix would work. But it does not change the fact that a game that has been subpar for half a decade was fixed by a fan (or group of fans) in a day. Now they are in panic mode, and who knows what damage they'll bring to the game now.
Unconcerned of providing quality work
This is been a proven fact of this division, the fighting game division, of the company of CAPCOM; Street Fighter V has been a 5-year beta test that simply didn't work. Proof of this is the net code being worse than better as each iteration was released, under the disguise of 'seasons.' They also sweep problems under the rug with tournaments, missions, and 'sponsorship Fight Money events.' It's pretty telling how much CAPCOM shows no concern over their own product; Ono, the game's producer, has proven his inability to provide quality products, however, since we the FGC continue to spend countless dollars to substandard experiences, with less and less given until they will inevitably give up on the game, just as they always do with every modern Street Fighter game.
Simple Embarrassment
The problem wasn't the fact that the net code didn't work for all players (meaning PC and PS4 players not having to worry about lag), but that a random group of people could easily fix their net code and it has made the game better. This is embarrassing for a company; no matter where you stand with them. It also casts doubts on a company's understanding or addressing concerns customers have.
Moving Forward
Buyer beware; that's the mantra we must always remember. Do we believe CAPCOM have learned their lesson over this? No. If they had, they would have seen what the fans created, review and test the code, and finally add to it to work for all consoles while acknowledging the efforts of these fans. I'm not placing any money on that stock.
